3 Science Apps for In-Depth Learning

Your kids will enjoy these educational science apps that range from studying the solar system to your backyard.

Junior Astronaut

Junior Astronaut is a completely engaging and illuminating science app for kids. Using storytelling, offline connections and interactive touch-screen activities, Junior Astronaut reinforces the concepts of force and motion, gravity, mass and weight. Recommended by the developers for ages 9 and up, but kids younger can get into the learning, even if they don’t fully understand all the concepts. This is not a small app, coming in at 430 MB at the time of this review, so you’ll need to make some room on your device.

Sound Uncovered

Sound Uncovered is a completely engaging app with interactivity, vibrant images and sounds that keep you wondering, asking questions and searching out new information. Over 20 pages present fun facts about sound. The whole family can settle in with this app, allowing the sounds and fun facts pique your curiosity. There is informative text and explanations provided in the app. Text is not written for young children and there is no speech option. An app is to be  used alongside your child, with content that’s interesting for adults too!

Meet the Insects: Village Edition

Meet the Insects: Village Edition is one of the most thorough and interesting apps about insects we have in KinderTown. For a very reasonable price kids get access to a complete library of facts, images, videos, quizzes, journals, stories and so much more! The app has plenty of text, all of which can be read aloud by the engaging narrator. We really love the journal for kids to go find the insects in their world, take notes of the most interesting facts and get involved in creating their own content. We recommend starting at the insect story to get a nice introduction to insects, their life cycles, sounds and other fun bits of knowledge.
