It’s time again for KinderTown to release it’s annual list of favorite apps. We started this list to help parents with new iPads, iPhones, or iPod Touches figure out where to start in turning their devices into playful learning machines for their kids, but in only it’s 2nd year, our list has already become a valuable resource for veteran mobile users as well.
Some of the app names will be very familiar, but we’d be surprised if a lot of these apps aren’t new to you (unless you’re a huge fan who never misses one of KinderTown’s articles, in which case, THANK YOU!). One reason is because the world of kids apps is largely made up of small app developers who do what they do not because it will make them rich, but because they want to contribute something positive to this rapidly changing technological world.
Another reason you’ll find so many apps you’ve never heard of before is because there has seemingly been a whole evolutionary generation’s worth of progress in app quality in the past year. We’re seeing more and more educational experts teaming up with app developers or going out on their own to create sophisticated, educationally rigorous apps. Also, some of the kids app developers who have been around for a while are starting to release new products based on everything they learned the first time around. The results are exciting and remarkable.
The dream of having a “teaching assistant” in every home to help parents teach their kids is becoming more real every day.
With that, I leave you with our 2012 “Best Apps for Kids: Annual Parent Guide.” You can download the entire document or check back here on a regular basis as we will be publishing each section in a series of blog posts and linking to them here.
